College Fair Day - May 8th

The biggest and best college fair in the Bay Area is here in our backyard, at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga on Saturday, May 8th, from 1:00 – 4:30 PM.

Changes to UC Admissions Requirements

More information is now available about changes to University of California admission requirements that take effect for Fall, 2012 admission. Current Sophomores still need to consider taking SAT Subject Tests, however, and should plan to take or re-take the PSAT on October 16, 2010.

In-Focus: Information for College-Bound Students with Special Needs

(504 Plans, Individual Education Plans, ADHD, etc.)

The MDUSD Career Centers maintain a full series of informational documents that pertain to success in high school, post-high school opportunities, and college application. The newest piece is a Calendar for college-bound students who face a variety of challenges including, but not limited to, learning disabilities, physical limitations, attention and executive function disorders, and medical conditions. The new calendar provides a time-line for testing, help in identifying and evaluating supportive collegiate programs, and print and web resources. Thanks to Jane McClure, an educational psychologist and college consultant based in San Francisco, for sharing her expertise in this field.

Taming the College Application Monster

2008-2009 marked the first year of electronic submission of transcripts and recommendations via The Common Application. A majority of the private/independent colleges that Northgate students apply to, plus a growing number of public universities outside of California, accept The Common Application.

Matriculation to DVC

Current Seniors who plan to attend Diablo Valley College full-time beginning Summer or Fall of 2010 are required to participate in an application, placement, and orientation program. Prospective students who complete this program in May will receive an early registration appointment. Those who procrastinate and wait until August to register will find few spaces in late morning, early afternoon, and popular general education classes on campus. To assure registration priority, follow the steps detailed here.
